National Rail Enquiries’ Online Journey Planner passes one billion enquiries and is three years old
National Rail Enquiries’ Online Journey Planner has reached an important milestone having handled its billionth train enquiry, and also passed its third birthday recently (on 19 August) since it was successfully relaunched in August 2006.
The Online Journey Planner is the busiest travel/transport web site in the UK. Initially handling 600,000 enquiries a day it now deals with over 1.3 million. New and better functionality has gradually been introduced, such as Print your Own Timetable, Season Ticket Calculator and Cheapest Fare Finder. Its busiest day was 3rd February 2009 when over 2.4 million journey plans were requested.
Chris Scoggins, Chief Executive of National Rail Enquiries, said: “The Journey Planner has been a tremendous success offering passengers a wide range of functionality, including real time information to enable them to make informed travel decisions. It has been specifically designed using feedback from passengers, which is why we continue to see the significant growth in its popularity.”
