Plumpton to trial hourly service

The people of Plumpton will see their train service extended this December to provide an hourly service throughout the day.

The village and its MP Norman Baker have long campaigned for additional stops at Plumpton to fill in the current gaps in the timetable. Now train operator Southern has agreed to stop additional trains at Plumpton on a trial basis.

The new services which will be implemented at the next timetable change on December 12, have been agreed on the grounds that they will be kept under review and may need to be reconsidered in the light of any future wider timetable review.

David Scorey, Franchise Improvement Director for Southern, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to finally meet Plumpton’s aspirations. The stumbling block has always been the knowledge that doing this could constrain us in the future with wider timetable plans, however we now have an understanding over this and are happy to provide Plumpton with the benefit now rather than hold-off indefinitely.”

Norman Baker MP said: “I am delighted that Southern has responded positively to my repeated requests to introduce an hourly service for Plumpton and thank them for this. This is something the village has been seeking for a long time.

“We have now completed the transition for Plumpton from a rush-hour only station to one with a regular hourly service throughout the day. It’s now up to the people of Plumpton to make sure they use these extra services.”

From the December change, additional trains will call at Plumpton as follows:

Weekdays from Monday 13th December

Up Direction for London Victoria : 13:28 14.28

Down Direction for Ore: 11.44 13.44 14:44

This will now give Plumpton an hourly service throughout the majority of the day with some additional morning peak services.

On Saturdays, additional hourly trains will call at Plumpton as follows:

Saturdays from Saturday 18th December

Up Direction for London Victoria: 11:28 13.28 14:28 5:28

Down Direction for Ore: 13.45 14.45 15.55
