SOUTH WEST PASSENGERS ASKED THEIR VIEW ON REGION’S RAIL FUTURE
Dec 16th, 2009 | By Aiza | Category: Rail NewsSouth West passengers have outlined their priorities for the region’s rail network which include improving punctuality and reducing overcrowding on trains. Passenger Focus has now spoken to 1500 passengers in Reading, Bristol and Exeter to ensure they have a say on the region’s railway future.
Passengers have told the national passenger watchdog that they also want more reliable services, later-evening trains, better connections and journey-time improvements.
Passenger Focus has responded to the industry’s Great Western Route Utilisation Strategy draft which is looking at the future needs of the rail network and gaps which will have to be addressed in planning for the 2014-2019 period. As well as speaking to passengers, Passenger Focus reviewed feedback in the National Passenger Survey and has spoken to rail user groups and stakeholders in the region to form its response.
Mike Greedy, Passenger Focus manager for the South West, said: “Network Rail and the industry must consider the views of passengers who pay for these vital rail services. Based on what passengers have told us, we want Network Rail and the wider industry to look at improving stations, access and car parking. It is also vital for the industry to plan for increasing numbers of passengers on what are already busy routes.”
