The celebrations, organised by the Stranraer to Ayr Line Support Association (SAYLSA), will a also include a display of landscape paintings of the Ayr-Stranraer line by young Scottish artist Leo du Feu as well as artwork by Girvan primary school pupils.
Richard Carr, chairman of SAYLSA, said: “This is a landmark anniversary for Girvan -just as the station is a major landmark in the town. We will continue working with ScotRail to highlight the appeal of rail travel.”
Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, paid tribute to all involved in marking the 150th anniversary of the rail line, and added: “I welcome the tireless efforts to promote rail travel and enhance Girvan station.”
