ScotRail is to improve interchange facilities at Oban and Stonehaven stations this year.
These new facilities complement the £1.85M of station investments made by ScotRail across Scotland during 2009/10.
At Oban a clearly-marked walking route will be provided from the station to Caledonian MacBrayne’s pier. At Stonehaven a waiting shelter will be installed for customers awaiting buses and taxis.
The train operator will also introduce modern Help Points at 19 stations, replacing BT phones with a **1 facility. This will allow customers to request information and assistance from ScotRail on a secure direct link, providing further reassurance and improved customer service.
Under the Department for Transport’s Access for All programme, which is managed by Transport Scotland, work will begin by early 2011 at Montrose on a new footbridge with lifts.
In addition, as part of a rolling maintenance programme, Montrose Station will also be repainted and rebranded in the new ScotRail blue and white colours.
Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, said: “The investments underpin our commitment to delivering station enhancements for our customers.
“They also follow completion of new toilets and showers and a left luggage facility at Inverness Station in a £500,000 enhancement programme which included a £140,000 contribution by HITRANS.”
