NORTHERN RAIL TEAM SWAPS TRAIN WHEELS FOR TWO WHEELS

A team of Northern Rail employees will be swapping train wheels for two wheels when they take part in a 150 mile cycling challenge from Blackpool to Newcastle to raise money for two hospices on Thursday 27th May.

The team of five, including keen cyclist and Area Director Matthew Beeton, all work in Northern’s Area North, which covers Lancashire, Cumbria and the North East.

They’ll be raising money for Trinity Hospice in Blackpool and St Oswald’s Hospice in Newcastle.  Both hospices provide palliative care for children and adults.

The challenge will begin at Blackpool North station this Thursday morning (27th May), where the team will be waved off by youngsters who are being supported by Trinity Hospice.  Their journey will then take them up the Fylde Coast, into the Lake District and along the TransPennine trial, finishing at Newcastle Central Station on Saturday 29th May (fingers crossed!)

Matthew Beeton, Area Director, Northern Rail said: “Operating train services right across the north of England we serve a lot of communities and are always looking for the opportunity to help and support them.

“The team felt very strongly about raising money for local hospices, which provide so much care and support for the terminally ill and their families.  We’ve looked at Blackpool and Newcastle where our main train crew depots are and Trinity Hospice is a particular choice as they are supporting one of our employees following a family bereavement.”
