SCOTRAIL INVESTMENT AT EAST OF SCOTLAND STATIONS

Class 322 EMU number 322481, in First Scotrail...

ScotRail investment in East of Scotland stations this year will be dominated by £1.5M worth of improvements at Haymarket Station in Edinburgh. These complement the £1.85M of station investments made by ScotRail across Scotland during 2009/10.

The investment will provide two new lifts installed from the current footbridge, offering step-free access to each platform – along with automatic doors and better cycle storage facilities at the station.

The works will be completed in time for the launch of new services between Edinburgh and Glasgow due to begin once the Scottish Government’s project to re-open the Airdrie-Bathgate rail link is completed in December 2010.

In addition, as part of a rolling maintenance programme, and subject to listed building consent, stations are to be repainted and rebranded in the new blue and white ScotRail colours at Cupar, Haymarket and Linlithgow.

Other ScotRail investment plans in the East of Scotland this year will result in:

• Enhanced waiting facilities at South Gyle and Drem stations.
• Station entrance clocks at Bridge of Allan, Musselburgh and Newcraighall.
• A height adjustable counter in the booking office at Polmont.

Under the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme, which is managed by Transport Scotland, a ramp will be provided to the southbound platform at Cupar.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, said: “The investments underpin our commitment to delivering station enhancements for our customers. We are especially pleased that Haymarket will see enhancements in time for the new train services in December.”
