James the Red Engine

Amazon.co.uk Review
It’s over fifty years since the publication of the first Railway Series stories by the Rev. W. Awdry. To celebrate, the publishers have reissued them in six special books, each containing four famous tales of Thomas and his friends. Larger and chunkier than the originals, these books feature all the original text and illustrations and are redesigned in a way that makes every spread unique. Easier to hold and look at, this format is ideal for parents and children to share together.

Contained in this volume: “James and the Top-Hat”, “James and the Boot- lace”, “Troublesome Trucks”, “James and the Express”. (Ages 3 and over) — Philippa Reece

One Response to James the Red Engine

  1. Alex Ford says:

All the stories that I loved as a child are now being enjoyed by my two daughters. But – and it is quite a big but – the publishers have mangled the original artwork in producing these new editions. Most of the images have been cropped and many of them have been resized, in some cases blown up well beyond the resolution of the originals. Some images are blurred, and in quite a few places details from the stories have been lost. A shame.

Perhaps the publishers could now release the rest of the original books, in their original format?
